Farm Animal Caregiver

We are hiring a part-time Farm Animal Caregiver! The Farm Animal Caregiver will be responsible for farm opening tasks Monday through Friday at the sanctuary in Lindstrom, MN (additional evening hours may also be available). Tasks include opening barns & letting out the residents, feeding (feed & hay distribution), stall cleaning, refreshing water, and observing animal behavior/health for potential problems. Opening shifts are typically conducted with the help of a volunteer. Work schedule is approximately 8:30 am-12:30 pm Monday-Friday. You must be comfortable working with large farm animals (e.g., cows and pigs); prior farm animal experience is not required but is beneficial. Paid training is provided. Farm Animal Caregivers must be reliable – the health and well-being of our residents depend on it!

Responsibilities:

  • Animal feeding and maintaining animal-feeding schedules

  • Animal watering and maintaining animal-watering schedules

  • Barn cleaning

  • Assisting with animal health care, including administering medications

  • Overseeing volunteers during your shift

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience caring for animals; farm animal/large animal experience preferred.

  • Able to work in all weather conditions

  • Able to perform physical labor and lifting

  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and maintain animal-care schedules as assigned

  • Ability to work well with a variety of people

  • Team player

  • Very reliable and dependable

  • Commitment to Farmaste’s animal-care policies

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Able to pass a criminal background check

 

Specifications:

  • 20 hours per week during training (4 hours per morning, Monday-Friday);15 hours per week post-training (3 hours per morning, Monday-Friday)

  • Pay begins at $16 per hour

  • $500 signing bonus to be paid after six months of employment (including training period)
